Occupiers’ Liability Insurance Policy 

This Policy covers the legal liabilities of an owner or occupier of premises in respect of loss of or damage to property or bodily injury or death suffered by any user of the premises, third parties, and members of the public in the event of building collapse, fire, earthquakes, storm or flood.
This policy is made compulsory by section 65 of the Insurance Act 2003. The policy protects the owner or occupier of the public building against legal liabilities to the Third parties.

Category of Public Buildings 
According to section 65(2), these include:
- All business and office premises (government, corporate, private)
- Tenement house 
- Hotel, guest house and hostel 
- Building occupied by tenants, lodge, or licensee
- Educational service building 
- Medical service building 
- Recreational purpose building, club house and cinema hall
- Business transactional building 

Premium 
The premium is charged based on the purpose of the building. 

Penalty for Defaulter 
Section 65 (6) An occupier or owner of premises who is in default of this section commits an offence and is liable on conviction to a fine of not more than N100,000 or to imprisonment for one year or both.
